I've played this before, yeah. But I . . . don't think there's a way to break it. I know in the past there were consequences for cheating, but . . .

... You played it in Sabra, I played it in Kyriakos, Macaron played it at the library...

How did your team do in it?

Overall? I guess we played as lightly as we could . . . defensively, even. We were a target in games like that.

[he can probably see her go very tense at that.]

Do you remember your ending score?

We had . . . seventeen orbs at the end, I believe. The worst we played was beating someone unconscious, which I had to take care of.

When Takshaka played, that version of the game didn't have any physical effects. It was all stuff that messed with your head instead. So, we only played on ourselves, but...

We still ended with negative seventy-two.

[he actually looks a little horrified, good job]

But - . . . you were allowed to play on yourself?

Yeah. You could also choose to just not play- that's what we did for the second round- But if you did, Nyssa took two cards from your hand and played them on you.

So we played one on ourselves in round one, passed the second round and got two of our cards played on ourselves, and one in round three, all low cards.

That's still . . . geez. I don't - I didn't know it was possible to get that low a score. N-No offense.

Yeah, well... Better than the alternatives. I like to think of that score as a giant middle finger at that bitch of an Echo.

... But, well... You can see why I'm pretty apprehensive about this game.

We couldn't play on ourselves or refuse to play . . . I know they played it before, as well, but I wasn't there for it.

[he reaches up to rub at the bridge of his nose, knocking his glasses down a bit] Understandably. At least it isn't the war rooms . . .

Push a button, attack a team. It was a stupid game.

Or the . . . I don't remember if it had a name. But they would take a member of a team and put them in glass cases, and people had to choose which one to save.

[yeah that second one gets a hell of a reaction from her

her breathing just stops, her eyes go wide, and she goes incredibly tense and freezes completely]

He turns towards her a little more, so he can look at her directly]

[sadly, she doesn't quite respond

she's breathing, but it's very shallow and rapid, her eyes are unfocused now, and she's clutching her head and looks absolutely terrified...]

[he reaches out to touch her shoulder]

[She reflexively recoils from the touch, but it's enough to get her to focus, pulling her back to reality enough to try to calm herself]

What- You? I'm- I'm okay, just- Hold on, I'll...

[he draws his hand back, but gestures to the kitchen]

Come sit down, you don't look okay at all.

[she's about to protest that she's okay, but she stops herself, knowing that there's no way anyone would possibly buy that now

her breathing is still rough and shallow, and she's shaking as she walks, with a hand against the wall to support herself as she goes.]

[he shakes his head, a hand almost hovering as she walks down the hall]

I'm sorry for bringing it up.

I was the one who asked about games. I didn't think- I should have realized if this game is being repeated, a lot of them would, but...

. . . but?

... It never occurred to me. I didn't want to think about it at all.

. . . I doubt anyone wants to think about it. Or that other people have had to go through it.
